Another thing I love about the Melissa & Doug line of toys is that they are a family-owned, American company. Items that are made in the United States, by workers who are paid decent wages and are treated well are more sustainable than toys that are made overseas or by employees who aren’t paid fair wages.  Toys that are made overseas have to travel much farther to make it to store shelves in your town and that’s not good for the environment. I also feel that it’s important to try to purchase items from companies that treat their employees fairly – it just seems like the ethical thing to do.
