How Does Saving Energy Save The Earth?

I’ve seen it everywhere – save energy, turn off the lights/electrics when not in use.
But how is saving energy exactly saving the earth? Does it reduce pollution? What does it do in favor of the environment?

It does not save the earth.
The earth will be here long after we are all dead and gone and the human species is extinct.
It is US that it will save from extinction.

The above poster has it correct, it is less about saving the “earth” and more about saving the ability for us as humans to stand the atmosphere here.
The earth has been around long before humans, and no matter what we do to it, it will remain long after we are extinct.
However, I believe your question was meant to be a little simpler than that. We produce energy by burning natural resources. Coal power plants, oil, natural gas… all go to produce the energy to turn on your light bulb. If you turn that lightbulb on less, and everyone around you does as well. The power plants will have to burn less to produce enough energy to meet everyones demands.

we use less resources by limiting our use of energy. It take us the earths natural resources and pollutes the air to generate energy and so we should use it sparingly.
